The Hydromancer

The Hydromancer’s milky blue crown hangs above a face partly hidden by pale trailing tissue. His brood was shaped for the violent weather of gas giants, where pressure, current, and sudden changes in light can overwhelm a vessel bred for calmer surroundings.

Tidecaller grew from the same inheritance. The Hydromancer learned to read a storm by watching how its layers moved against one another, and he sought shelter within those layers when stronger rivals came hunting. What began as a way to survive became a method of choosing when and where to meet an enemy.

He speaks of weather with the affection another captain might reserve for a home port. Visitors who bring reliable observations will find him attentive and willing to share safe routes. He has been reading storms since before Tidecaller could fly; a pursuer gets one storm to learn.
