Chitin-Lord Pax

Pax presents a smooth, dark shell and a pair of green compound eyes to visitors. He is proud of the chitin he has grown, both on his own body and across Carapace, where layered material has survived impacts that would have broken a lesser vessel.

His confidence began as an experiment. Pax studied the places where a strike glanced away and adjusted the next growth to make those surfaces stronger. Each encounter offered more evidence, and each success encouraged him to bring the ship closer to opponents who believed their solid shot would settle the matter.

He is not vain about the result; he is patient with it. Where other captains maneuver, Pax waits, and lets an opponent spend shot after shot learning what he already knows. He still feeds the shell with care, because a living hull that is taken for granted will thin. An enemy who finds a real weakness earns his full attention, which is rarely a reward.
