Queen Apex

Apex’s broad, scarred head gives her a view in several directions, an arrangement she considers appropriate for a queen whose ambitions extend well beyond her present territory. Throne Organism is already larger than most cruisers, but Apex speaks of its size as a stage in its development.

She grew the vessel to shelter a court and the broods that serve it. As the court expanded, so did its needs: more nourishment, more room, and more territory from which to gather both. Apex’s demands have attracted followers who believe her growth proves their future will be abundant, and rivals who fear what that future will consume.

She rewards those who bring useful resources and remembers those who make promises they cannot fulfill. Apex is not careless about the life aboard her ship; a queen’s stature depends on what her court can sustain. She simply sees no reason that present limits should remain permanent.
