Molt-Princess Thren

Thren’s amber shell has begun to show its age. The great green eyes beneath it remain watchful, though the hive expected Thren to surrender that particular self during the final molt and join a larger collective identity.

They refused. The choice cost them a place in the ceremonies that had shaped their life, and the broodmothers warn that the body they retained will eventually fail. Thren does not dispute the warning. They dispute the idea that fear of an ending should decide who they must become.

Refused Cathedral carries others who want time to consider their own transformations. Thren does not forbid them to molt or demand they share the refusal; the only requirement aboard is that the choice be theirs. Pride, stubbornness, and loneliness come with that position, especially when an old hive companion calls. Thren always listens, and never answers in the chorus’s voice.
