Spawn-of-Six Yssil

Yssil was the smallest of seven. The broodmother kept the runt and let the six others be culled, and she never explained the choice. Yssil has supplied an explanation of their own: it was the first lesson in what happens when one authority decides which lives are worth the food they consume.

The small survivor grew into a watchful captain with wide eyes and a ridged, weathered face. Severed Lattice takes its name from the family Yssil never had a chance to know. Its chambers hold accounts of lost siblings collected from other broods, each one offered by someone who wanted the absence acknowledged.

Yssil does not promise to avenge every death. They know how easily a promise can become another burden for the survivor. Instead, they look for hatcheries where a quiet intervention might save the next batch from an old custom, and they remember the names whenever names exist.
