The Auditor
The Auditor wears thin spectacles and speaks softly enough that people tend to lean closer. He began his career examining campaigns whose reported victories concealed ruinous bills. A fleet could claim success while the stations it protected went without supplies, and the discrepancy convinced him that victory needed a fuller accounting.
Aboard Ledger, he weighs each commitment against what it can accomplish. His crew knows that he may hold fire through a provocation if the answer would cost more than the threat warrants. The crew also knows he will spend freely when protecting a convoy or preventing a larger loss requires it.
He keeps records of lives and obligations alongside material costs, although critics who see only his restraint assume he values numbers above people. The Auditor welcomes a well-supported argument. He has no patience for a commander who calls waste courage and expects someone else to pay for it.
