Foreman Wallace Underhill
Underhill’s timecard says his shift should have ended years ago. The records were corrupted during a labor dispute, and each attempt to correct them has produced another request for evidence from an office that no longer exists. He has stopped treating the mistake as urgent.
The work he took responsibility for is another matter. A string of unfinished repairs and unsettled claims followed his crew from one posting to the next, until Underhill gathered them aboard Overtime and began visiting the places they had been forced to leave behind. Some need parts; others need an apology from the Combine and a person willing to make it stick.
His close-cropped hair has turned white, and his work jacket looks more familiar to him than a formal uniform. Underhill is not eager for a fight. He is, however, very hard to move off a job that is not finished.
