Necromancer-Captain Halden Voss
Halden Voss learned his first rites from his mother’s books, turning brittle pages in a room too cold to keep ink from thickening. The formal colleges dismissed the books as incomplete, and their graduates treated him as an embarrassment until his work began to succeed.
Success did not make him respectable. Voss’s coat remains thin and worn, his hair untidy, his face marked by the strain of practices he had to teach himself without a master to correct him. He keeps his mother’s notes aboard Thin Coat and adds his own warnings in the margins.
He is protective of students who arrive without connections, though he expects them to understand what their experiments may cost. A visitor who mocks his training will receive little attention. One who brings a genuine question may be invited to sit, read, and discover why the books endured after their author was gone.
