Mourner-Adept Seraphine Dol
Seraphine Dol was trained to give grief a voice for families who could not bear to speak at a funeral. She learned the histories of strangers, carried their names through the rite, and watched the living leave with a little less of the burden than they had brought.
The work accumulated. Violet traces run beneath her eyes, and her braided hair frames a face that seems to be listening even in silence. Dol has continued mourning long after the ceremony ends because she cannot always tell which sorrow is hers to set down.
Quiet Choir travels where the dead have been neglected or the living have been denied their farewell. Dol gathers accounts before she sings; she will not make a person into a convenient symbol for someone else’s grief. She is gentle with mourners and formidable with those who exploit them. To her, remembrance is a duty that requires both tenderness and boundaries.
