The Vigil
The Vigil carries a lantern with a violet light that has outlasted several of its metal frames. She has watched a sealed tomb for ninety years, replacing the fittings when they fail and recording every visitor who comes to ask when it will open.
The terms of her watch were specific about what she must guard and less clear about when her duty would end. She has tried to find an answer without disturbing the seal, consulting old records and people who claim to remember the tomb’s owner. Their accounts rarely agree.
Slow Lantern keeps her supplied as the years gather. She has become familiar with the communities around the tomb and quietly helps them when she can, because their safety affects the place she guards. The Vigil is not waiting blindly. She is waiting with questions, and she intends to be present when someone finally brings an answer worth trusting.
