Cousin-Captain Lucan Holm-Brackett
Lucan’s coat carries the colors of two houses that never wanted the marriage that joined them. The union produced a son neither side could comfortably reject and a ship neither side would fully claim. The houses named it Marriage Debt as a joke at his expense; Lucan decided the accounting amused him.
He has learned to move between relatives who expect different loyalties. A favor to one house may anger the other, so Lucan makes his agreements explicit and keeps copies where both families can find them. His easy smile helps conversations begin; his careful memory determines how they end.
Marriage Debt gives him a place to build relationships outside the old dispute. Its crew includes people whose connections were considered awkward by one house or the other, and Lucan values their ability to negotiate without pretending the tensions have vanished. He would like his families to reconcile. He is unwilling to wait for them before making a life.
